“Techno” literally translating to Technology, inspired the firm to base their design of their office around the idea of incorporating new and old technological solutions in their design. The main office is nestled in a 100-year-old building, was re-created in the same old atmosphere without having broken or altered the existing setting. These rustic and ethnic concepts were evolved keeping in mind the “old technology”. The office, since being expanded further, is clad in glass and steel and reflects the “new technology”.

The house is composed of three columns which culminate in an overhanging bridge. The living spaces nestled around it results in a dynamic design with multiple levels which externally resemble a set of nested boxes suspended over the landscape. The subtle play of levels gives the structure a sense of ease. Large French windows combine the external and internal spaces. The finishes and overall appearances of the house tend to be extremely sober, sustained, and clean. The building itself harmonizes with its surroundings through its stone toned façade.

The site is nested in one of the busiest and congested parts of Bangalore and is designed for a businessman family. The site itself was a tricky one, as the house had to be designed on the small vacant portion of an already existing three-story structure at the rear end. The result was a three-bedroom unit with an additional provision of office space, a swimming pool, an elevator with a chic and modern interior.

The brief required a house for a family of four in South Bangalore. The clients aspired for a Contemporary design of a Contemporary house, with a more fluid arrangement of spaces, along with work and entertainment zones on different levels. At the same time, they wanted a landscape that combined all spaces internally and externally.

The ground floor essentially consists of public and semi-public activities that overlook into a common landscape area looking onto the street, while the interior and the exterior spaces blend seamlessly into each other on the same platform. The private rooms are placed in the upper levels with ample view of the front landscape garden.  Being positioned right on the entry steps, cantilevered structural support and hence the name “HOUSE IN THE AIR”.
