Ma Yansong and MAD Architect’s Visionary

Continuing to gain global recognition, MAD Architects recently has gained momentum in the international architectural spotlight. In 2014, MAD was chosen as the principal designer for the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Chicago, creating history as it was the first time a China-based form was selected to design a prominent cultural landmark overseas. In 2006, MAD made headlines by winning the design competition for the Absolute Towers in Mississauga, Canada, iconic high-rise residentials, which was completed in 2012 and gained the “Best Tall Building Americas” award as well as secured first position in EMPORIS 2013 Skyscraper Awards.
MAD Architects’ futuristic organic forms have earned them commendations as well as criticism. Their design for George Lucas’s Museum sparked debate in Chicago with remarks as a ‘land-eating colossus. After protests from locals, the project was moved from Chicago to Los Angeles. Despite some setbacks, MAD continues to pursue its innovative projects.
