In the 2025 season, Vancouver’s iconic Kitsilano Pool once again drew locals and visitors to its scenic waterfront location. Amid ongoing operational and structural challenges, Eight Station, a Vancouver-based rendering studio, developed a concept rethinking the pool as a more functional, accessible, and inviting urban space.

Rather than proposing a full-scale reconstruction, Eight Station’s vision focused on targeted, thoughtful interventions that enhance usability, community engagement, and harmony with Vancouver’s dynamic waterfront environment. The proposal prioritized practical improvements while respecting the cultural and social significance of the historic pool.

Key elements of the concept included:

Expanded Community Spaces – The design introduced a larger amphitheatre-style seating area, creating space for performances, gatherings, and casual social interactions, while preserving sweeping views of English Bay.

Optimized Layout – By repositioning non-essential structures, the plan freed up public areas, improving circulation and creating welcoming spaces for diverse user groups, from families to recreational swimmers.

Enhanced Pedestrian Experience – Walkways were reimagined to facilitate smoother pedestrian flow, clearer navigation, and reduced congestion during peak periods.

Integrated Landscape Design – Thoughtful landscaping and planting strategies improved sightlines, created comfortable microclimates, and maintained aesthetic cohesion without requiring intensive maintenance.

Eight Station’s proposal arrived at a pivotal moment as city planners, community members, and stakeholders explored sustainable long-term solutions for Kitsilano Pool. The concept provided a balanced framework that preserved the pool’s iconic character while introducing practical updates to enhance functionality and accessibility.

This reimagined vision served as an invitation for community discussion, demonstrating how careful design and visualization can guide the future of a cherished urban landmark.
