Philip Johnson (1906–2005) was American architecture’s great shape-shifter — founding MoMA’s architecture department, building the modernist Glass House in 1949, co-designing the Seagram Building with Mies van der Rohe, then detonating modernism with the Chippendale-topped AT&T Building. The first-ever Pritzker Prize laureate (1979), Johnson is represented here by 15 works spanning six decades of American style.
