The dressing table has spent years being treated as bedroom utility: drawers below, mirror above, job done. Ashley Furniture, available at Dash Square, gives this familiar piece considerably more personality, with designs that move from pared-back timber to elaborate carved wood.

The collection explores the dresser across very different design languages. For contemporary bedrooms, six-drawer compositions keep the silhouette clean and substantial. One design comes in a muted grey-brown finish, with slim metal pulls and a large framed mirror, while another uses a pale, washed wood finish with crisp rectangular handles. Both rely on broad drawer fronts and minimal detailing, allowing the grain and finish to take precedence.

A more rustic interpretation puts texture front and centre. Rough-grained timber, visible knots and tonal variations run across a multi-drawer chest, offset by dark metal handles and a black structural frame. The matching mirror repeats the wood finish, creating a strong, cohesive composition without excessive decoration.

At the other end of the spectrum is a richly detailed dresser that borrows from traditional furniture. Dark polished wood is worked with carved corner posts, floral ornamentation, decorative mouldings and an elaborate mirror crowned with a carved crest. Numerous drawers in varying proportions create an almost apothecary-like façade, while antique-style knobs and a stone-look top add further detail.

Across the range, the mirror is treated as an extension of the furniture rather than an afterthought. Frames repeat the dresser’s material and finish, making each pairing read as a complete piece.
