The renovation project for a 140 sqm apartment in the Tortona district, in Milan, opts for a clear division of spaces: first a large living area looking out onto the outdoor area, then a library connecting to the sleeping area, last part of the apartment, with two bedrooms and bathrooms, and two large balconies.

After the entrance with a custom-made wardrobe, there is the big living room with a floor-to ceiling library designed with Marco Albani, lacquered in shades of sage green and tilted at 45 degrees. This design choice was made to follow the French herringbone parquet in natural oak. A “trick” that allows you to hide and reveal stuff inside the library, as you walk through the room, in a three-dimensional game of lights and shadows; the oak-colored library’s laminate edge emphasizes its geometry.

In continuity with the bookcase and in contrast because of material and color, there is a copper shelf with a back that reaches the floor. This architectonical element is related to the details of the kitchen, done with the same finshes, and frames the grey wall of the living room. Linked with the copper shelf, there is a metal portal that separates and connects the living area with the sleeping area. The flooring changes from room to room. Entering the connecting library, it becomes sage green-colored stoneware, like the custom-designed lacquered shelving. The edge detail of the shelves is tapered to give greater lightness to the custom millworks.

The bedrooms are minimalist: the master bedroom includes an en-suite bathroom with light stone tiles on floor and walls. There is also a walk-in closet, which disappear thanks to a white flush door, same walls color.

The kitchen, which overlooks the living room, is separated to it by a light glass wall with white uprights and crossbars. All the kitchen components are in light gray Fenix with copper details and handles; the floor is made by a white and sage tiles flooring, which echoes the gemoetrical pattern of the parquet.

The large outdoor area has been renovated by repainting all the exterior walls and creating a  platform covered with random tiles that reflect the warm colors of the exterior.
