Many early Americans who established the Dallas area travelled by wagon trains via the Shawnee Trail. This path evolved into Preston Road and then the Preston Trail. The town of Lebanon was established alongside this trail as a result of all of this activity, and in 1860 it was given a U.S. post office. The St. Louis–San Francisco Railway was building a line through the region in 1902, and the steam engines required regular watering breaks along the way. The watering stop was moved about 4 miles (6 km) to the west to a lower location because Lebanon’s existing village, which is on the Preston Ridge, is too high a height. Around this train station, a settlement emerged. Some Lebanon homeowners transported their homes on logs to the new neighbourhood. Emerson was the initial name of the new town, but the U.S. Postal Service rejected it because it was too similar to Emberson, another hamlet in Lamar County. The St. Louis-San Francisco Railway was honoured in 1904 when the town’s people decided to call it “Frisco City.” Later, it was abbreviated to Frisco.
