During the Edo period from 1603 to 1867, a part of the current Koshigaya City flourished as a post town – one of the five significant roads built to connect old Tokyo with several locations all over Japan. A new Koshigaya Town was founded in 1954 when the old Koshigaya Town, eight villages and Osawa Town merged. Then in 1958, Koshigaya Town was re-named Koshigaya City and became the twenty-second city in Saitama Prefecture.
