Planning a wedding in the summer is the best decision you can make for your special day. The only exception would be if there’s something specific about winter that you feel drawn to, like getting married on a snow-covered mountain or in a location where winter provides the scenery you’re after. If you’re aiming for dry weather and warmth, summer is the ideal season for several reasons.

1. You’ll be more inclined to do some sight-seeing

When you’re getting married in a beautiful place, there’s a chance you’ll want to explore the area and see key places before you leave. This is easier and more fun in the summertime, especially when you want to explore the architecture. Beautiful architecture is a big reason people choose certain destinations for their weddings, and it makes sense because amazing architecture can be awe-inspiring.

In fact, some antique rings even reflect the architecture of the time they were crafted, which is one reason they’re so popular for weddings and engagements. For example, many art deco rings were inspired by specific buildings, and some feature monuments, like the Statue of Liberty. Other ring designers were inspired by ancient Roman architecture.

If you love architecture and plan to take a tour of the area, skip the winter trip. You won’t want to wander around in large, spacious buildings when it’s freezing outside, so if you’re getting married somewhere that has attractions, plan your special day for summer.

2. You have more fashion options

In the summertime, when the weather is warm, you have far more options for what you and your wedding participants can comfortably wear. For instance, even when you’re getting married indoors, it can be really chilly, and you wouldn’t want to torture your bridesmaids by having them all wear sleeveless dresses. If you want to get married outdoors during a chilly time, people will be even colder, so keep their comfort in mind when you choose a date for your wedding.

3. A destination wedding is easier in the summer

Depending on your specific group of friends, you might find it easier to have a destination wedding in the summer. If your friends are in college and you want them to attend, they’ll be more likely to show up in the summer, provided they aren’t taking summer classes.

Summer also tends to be a better time for most people overall. In some professions, getting time off from June through August is much easier than getting approved for time off in December. Plus, with winter holidays, people are going to be a little more exhausted and if you’re having a destination wedding, you want your guests to be full of energy and feeling great.

4. People will be warmer

No matter how much your friends love you, they won’t appreciate being made to sit outside in the cold for your wedding, unless it’s been planned that way on purpose. For instance, if you choose to get married at a ski lodge or in the mountains, people will expect it to be cold. However, if you’re just getting married in the park and happen to choose a cold month, your guests won’t be too happy about that.

Try to plan your wedding day for a warmer time so you and your guests will feel more comfortable. You’ll have a better time and your pictures will even turn out better because you won’t be distracted, waiting for a chance to grab a jacket.

5. You’ll get more guests to show up

At the end of the day, most people aren’t going to want to show up to a wedding knowing it’s going to be freezing, snowing, or raining. Maybe your absolute best friends will, but other guests might decline simply because of the expected weather. Predictable, warm weather will produce a better turnout.

Most people will be happier with a summer wedding

Take these points into consideration when planning your wedding. Unless you are absolutely set on some kind of themed winter wedding, choose a warmer month for the sake of yourself and your guests. Most of your friends will tolerate being uncomfortable just to make you happy, but they will complain about it, and you may even see those complaints posted on social media.

Ultimately, when and where you get married is up to you, but at the very least, consider having a summer wedding to ensure the highest level of comfort and enjoyment for all.
