Your bed is somewhere you will spend a massive portion of your life. Because of this, you need to ensure that it is not only super-comfortable, but also ultra-supportive, and of course, stylish.

Start With Your Mattress

Firstly, you need to start with having the right mattress. Whether you are looking at SleepMaker beds or somewhere else online, the only way to know if a mattress is right for you is to lie on it and test it out.

There is no right answer when it comes to the perfect answer, as it will depend on your needs, current muscular or joint pain, how you sleep, etc. When choosing a mattress, it is best to choose the absolute best you can afford; your body will thank you.

Mattress Protector

The next item on your list, both for comfort and practical reasons, is a mattress protector. This is a thin, protective layer that goes on top of your mattress and underneath your bed sheet.

It adds an extra layer of comfort while also protecting your mattress from sweat, dirt, and spills. This not only means it won’t hold onto unpleasant smells, but also that the lack of damage means the mattress will last much longer.

Optional Mattress Topper

While not needed, a mattress topper is simply another soft layer that makes your bed that little bit more comfortable. It doesn’t serve any other purpose than comfort; therefore, if you don’t want one, you won’t be missing out.

Splurge on Sheets

For both comfort and style, it is always best to blow the budget a bit on a great set of sheets. Think of Egyptian cotton, for instance, which is not just incredibly soft and cozy, but also very high quality and will last for years.

If you want a more hypoallergenic option, silk is a brilliant choice. However, if a full silk set is out of the question, a silk pillowcase is the next best thing.

Pick the Right Duvet

Once again, when it comes to choosing your duvet, it comes down to personal preference. A duck feather duvet is heavier and insulates better, making it great for Winter, but it can be too warm if you experience very hot Summers.

On the other hand, a thinner duvet is ideal for Summer and Spring, but you may need extra blankets if you experience a cold snap.

Lightweight Blanket

Speaking of extra blankets, they will be both functional and stylish. Because of this, you should pay attention to the color and style of the blanket just as much as to how comfortable and warm it is.

All-Year

The first type of blanket you can choose is an all-year blanket. A cotton blanket is breathable and lightweight, making it ideal for chilly evenings and Winter if you live somewhere that doesn’t get freezing cold.

Winter

If you live somewhere that turns into the Arctic once Winter arrives, you should opt for a wool or thermal blanket, as those are the best materials for retaining heat and insulating you from the cold.

Choose the Right Pillow

Arguably, one of the most important parts of your bed is the pillows. Depending on the type of sleeper you are, the best pillow will offer the most comfort and support.

Side Sleepers

For side sleepers, you need a firm, high-loft pillow. This type of pillow helps to fill the gap between your shoulder and head, meaning your head won’t drop below parallel and therefore cause you both short-term and long-term neck discomfort and pain.

Back Sleepers

For back sleepers, you want a medium-height, medium-firm pillow. It is much easier to find a pillow for a back sleeper, as you are simply looking for the average pillow height and firmness. If it supports the curvature of your neck, then it is a pillow that will work for you.

Stomach Sleepers

For stomach sleepers, you want to opt for a soft, low-loft pillow. This will keep your head and neck at a more natural angle, and, therefore, keep your spine in a healthy position. It is important to remember that sleeping on your stomach can cause serious long-term damage if you don’t sleep on the right pillow.

Combination Sleepers

For combination pillows, you want something in between, meaning you will be looking at medium loft and firmness pillows. This will give you a little bit of everything, and will be ideal for those who move and twist around a lot in their sleep.

Colors

Never forget that you still want your bed to look chic and stylish. There are two ways to achieve this that are fairly simple if you don’t have a design thumb. The first is to opt for a monochromatic look.

All black bedding, or using different shades of black, for example, will create a sleek and simple look. On the other hand, if you want some color, choose neutral-colored bedding, and then add color with throw cushions, blankets, etc.
