The house draws inspiration from the distinctive style of architect Jaime Salvá, from Jaime Salvá Architecture & Interior Design, known for his horizontal structures and integration with the natural landscape. Its exposed concrete exterior, an industrial material combining structural functionality with aesthetic appeal, is a key feature. Salvá had long desired to use concrete in his designs, but it had not been attempted before due to its complexity—until commissioned by Patrick Hansmeier of Sophisticated Projects.

Hansmeier’s initial vision and Salvá’s aligned perfectly, leading to a design that changed little from its first proposal.

The project was remarkably efficient, with approval granted on the first submission, speeding up the design phase and allowing construction to be completed in less than a year.

Salvá’s challenge was to incorporate concrete without losing the warmth typical of residential designs, as concrete can often feel cold. To address this, the architect opened the ground floor to seamlessly connect the interior to the exterior, creating a pleasant living room with views of the swimming pool. Wooden slats were also strategically added to enhance the warmth of the space.

The outdoor dining area and kitchen are separated by sliding windows, hidden behind the thickness of the façade for better air circulation in cooler seasons. The kitchen is made of laminated wood, contributing to the home’s thermal insulation and comfort.

Concrete is durable but requires precise execution, as its structural elements are also the finished surfaces. Due to complexities in color, texture, and joints, a skilled professional team was essential. The material execution was directed by Iñaki Fernández from Coco Ingenieros and Iván Cazorla’s construction company, Building More.

Interior design was carefully handled by Marga Comas, with artwork curated by Gallery Red, featuring artists like Sepideh Ilsley, Andrea Torres Balaguer, and Evelyne Brader-Frank.

ENVY follows a timeless contemporary Mediterranean style, using noble natural materials and neutral tones that complement the artwork and furniture. Its L-shaped design maximizes views and privacy while creating a welcoming outdoor space shielded from neighboring views. The geometric simplicity of the spaces enhances the home’s overall iconic appeal.
