The primary design strategy employed in this house revolves around the placement of a circulation axis in the center of the plan. By doing so, spaces are visually and physically connected to the central axis, ensuring that even odd residual spaces become landscaped views for the internal areas. This approach not only enhances the overall functionality of the house but also creates a sense of harmony and unity between the various living spaces.

Approaching the house, one is met with a fortress-like compound, penetrated by a large corrugated corten steel gate, offering glimpses of the hidden treasures within. A flight of gentle steps leads to a grand entrance, marked by a striking ten-feet-tall door. The triple-height entrance lobby, featuring a captivating green steel and wood staircase, warmly welcomes visitors. From here, the circulation spine leads to the worship space, flanked by the kitchen and the dining area, creating a central point of reference.

The design thoughtfully caters to the needs of a multi-generational family by incorporating distinct living spaces on different levels. The parents’ room on the ground level offers a peaceful view of the koi pond at the entrance, providing a tranquil retreat. The central staircase, featuring a vibrant green hue, connects to the upper level, where the bedrooms and a family room are located. The daughter’s bedroom boasts of a projected glass cube seating area that offers breathtaking views of the surrounding woods. A sculptural staircase leads to a mezzanine study, providing a private space for contemplation and work.

The design language of the house beautifully combines the play of brick and cement plaster, which reveal the strong massing of the building from the exterior. This architectural choice creates a sense of visual interest and solidity. The same brickwork seamlessly continues into the interior spaces, establishing a material continuity throughout. Furthermore, a floating boat-shaped roof gracefully hovers over the house, serving as a striking architectural element while supporting the main staircase.

Through a careful consideration of the site’s features, a design strategy focused on connectivity and openness, and the creative use of materials and roof design, an exceptional home for a multi- generational family has been crafted. This dwelling not only harmoniously blends into its natural surroundings but also provides a series of gradually revealed spaces that celebrate the serenity and beauty of the location. The result is a truly tranquil haven that welcomes and embraces all who enter its inviting doors.
