Georgia’s ibis budget Tbilisi hotel opened its doors in May 2022. Creating public spaces for the Ibis Budget brand required STUDIO SHOO to totally alter the way that budget brands view technical and practical furnishings.

With its bars, pubs, and restaurants, Akhvlediani St., where the hotel building is situated, is well liked by both locals and visitors to the city. The music and street art of the neighbourhood quickly served as creative inspiration for the lobby.

The team created a design that gives the brand’s interior a cozy, welcoming, and eye-catching feel. Here, blue predominates (a shade that also appeared previously for Ibis Budget); we also incorporated light blue and vibrantly coloured red and yellow highlights.

The lighting fixtures, ping pong table, sofa with Georgian lettering, and cupboards were all precisely developed according to the ideas created by our team. We created a shelf for a special collection of old vinyl records behind the reception desk in the form of a music cassette.

The Georgian alphabet’s graphical and fluid letters surely served as an inspiration. It can certainly be seen on wall panels and as a distinctive print for sofas, according to the lead architect Shushana Khachatrian.

In a concept design, we have wall panelling that is the colour of natural plywood, graffiti that boldly depicts musicians, and matching colourful accent furniture and lights. Vibrant colours effectively provide a dazzling appearance and have a tendency to pique interest.

We meticulously transformed a public area into an established social gathering place for everyone with various needs and options: a play area with a ping pong table and a PlayStation, a room for conferences and phone calls, a private area for casual conversations, a market area with local goods (Georgian cheese and wine), and perhaps most importantly, a barrier-free area for people with physical disabilities.

One of our favorite features in the design is the Ping Pong table. Ksenia Stoylik (@momsgardenart), an artist, created its distinctive and particular print. The table has multiple uses; in addition to being used for games, it can also serve as a community breakfast table.
