Umami is a multi-family housing project that takes a very rational form and wraps it with playful, luxurious balconies. The façade is composed of prefabricated elements clad in brick and concrete while the balconies that wrap them are clad in shiny aluminium.

There are three buildings in the project and each has its own colour palette with the balconies being clad in either copper, silver or gold.

The apartments are rental units designed for relatively compact living. Adding a generous balcony to the living space made them feel larger and created a highly desirable indoor/outdoor experience with magnificent views.

The project is situated at the edge of a new city district in a norther suburb of Stockholm and each building is carefully placed on the top of a hill, keeping the forest close to the facades. The typology, together with a more free arrangement, is an intentional contrast to the adjoining city blocks as a way of articulating the transition from city to nature.
