The owners are avid kiteboarders. A strong and steady north-easterly trade wind hits this coast for the majority of the year.

The wind is an asset for cooling in summer months, but at other times it needs tempering. This is also the Atlantic hurricane belt.

The house is therefore designed as a robust filter to the wind. Staggered, groyne-like walls offer pockets of shade to poolside terraces and angled, gill-like slot windows ease wind into the home.
