This seaside contemporary home for an active couple with four teenage sons was given a California-coast-meets-mid-century inspired makeover by Space10 Interiors. The home has a reverse floor plan with the main floor on the second level to take advantage of ocean views. The newly-constructed contemporary ADU provides a much needed multifunctional space for guests, parties and a quiet place for reflection.

Space10 Interiors connected the owner’s personal style with the home’s location and architecture by exposing the vaulted ceilings which were previously hidden and adding a window in the kitchen to flood the space with light. Glossy white kitchen cabinetry with walnut accents and concrete style countertops provide a clean backdrop for the vibrant hits of color in the adjacent rooms.

The floor plan for the main living room was reversed to open the space and improve overall flow. A custom media wall with display shelves and seating storage was placed in a previously unused alcove, allowing for expanded family room seating.  This new arrangement helps define the living and dining spaces as well as highlight the vaulted wood ceilings. By pairing authentic mid-century designs in durable finishes the home is now youthful, colorful, cohesive and functional.

The master bedroom which can be seen from the main living area has mid century inspired wallpaper as the backdrop for the contemporary walnut furnishings.

The first floor entry is packed with function and style including seating, modern cabinetry and surf-inspired photography.  Colorful lockers add practical storage and durable vinyl newspaper print wallpaper protects the walls and connects the entry and second level designs.

This home’s costaside-contemporary cottage provides a modern space for this active family and its guests.  By switching gears to a more neutral palette, while maintaining a modern connection to the main house, this cottage is packed with casual comfort.

The custom wrap-around ocean wallpaper is a nod to the home’s seaside location and adds depth to the space.

The modern kitchen adds warmth and function while the concrete floors and aluminum windows are linking elements between the main home and the cottage.

The compact bathroom is tucked behind the ocean wallpaper wall.  The zero-threshold shower finished in large format porcelain tiles with two showerheads provides for a luxurious experience.

Overall this home provides a vibrant, functional and fun environment for this family to thrive.
