Silicon Labs is a global technology company headquartered in Texas with multiple locations around the world, including the BI building in Nydalen, Oslo. The office in Nydalen was in need of an upgrade and given the increase in employees, it was no longer optimized for use. Silicon Labs also wanted assistance in creating a fresh and inviting workplace for their employees to return to after the pandemic. The key words were colors, combined with a clear zone division. The main task became creating a unifying social zone and a playful welcome zone. There was a large focus on reuse, both of furniture and materials. Ceilings and lighting were largely retained.

In the collaboration area, we replaced some of the ceiling panels with moss plates to give a lush effect. New partitions were moved and reused from other parts of the building.

In this projects Kubik used colours to organize and create different spaces. The colours are used to enhance and evoke different moods and invite different activities that occur in a workday.

Yellow is used in the social gathering place and welcoming sone. A large kitchen island with a countertop made of recycled plastic creates a perfect meeting place . Plastic that ends up in the ocean is an enormous environmental crisis. Fortunately, there are many creative companies looking for ways to solve these problems. Here, plastic from the sea has been melted down to become a decorative countertop. The reception area and lounge were furnished with sculptural furniture that invites different ways of sitting. The  eye-catching furniture  showcases the company’s playful and youthful attitude.

Green is used in areas of Collaboration and knowledge sharing. Kubik created  a lush green oasis with a flexible amphitheater surrounded by meeting rooms for different types of meetings. The amphitheater can be easily reconfigured and adapted to different activities and gatherings. Plants, cushions, and green moss on the ceiling reinforce the biophilic approach.

Meeting and conversation rooms in the working zone are painted in various blue and lavender colours, giving an electric energy boost to the rooms.

The office has gone from being gray and cluttered without a clear identity to becoming a workplace full of energy, colors, and clearly delineated areas for different activities.
