Made in autumn 2024, this 30-sqm sculptural roof garden is a highly green outdoor space, teeming with focal points, biodiverse planting, unique 3D bespoke planters, HAY Palissade furniture & lavish lighting. The roof garden is the crowning gem of a Holland Park townhouse, located above the residence, completely secluded, sunny all day & enjoying an uninterrupted 360-degree panorama above a leafy neighbourhood.

This project culminated the long renovation process of the property. Bespoke 3D 2-tone planters provide bold focal points, planted with profuse plants for autumn colour. Salvia, Penstemon, grasses & herbs create textural tapestries, increasing well-being for both the clients & wildlife. The planters are completely unique, made only for this project. The 2 pairs of 3D planters were designed with angled sides, a 35mm recess & set afloat onto rubber pedestals which create an architectural, sleek shadow gap.

Powder-coated in RAL6028 & RAL6021, these 2 green hues complement one another & set off the verdant planting. We selected a deep red colour for the masonry walls to add depth, contrast & warm tones conducive to the sunny aspect. This backdrop elevates the green planters & lush foliage, generating dynamic silhouettes both day & night. Amenities include a kid’s vegetable garden, bbq, steel furniture, decking, irrigation & wall lights. The project was facilitated via an external furniture lift which uplifted all materials & plants to the rooftop, since its location is completely inaccessible through the house.

In spring, a pair of purple-flowering Lilac trees produces perfume & perfect blooms demarcating the rooftop as a lush local landmark viewed from street level across the vicinity. For our clients & 2 young kids, this rooftop enables year-round enjoyment relished in utter privacy, where guests, playmates & family can savour the edible garden, cook & sunbathe surrounded by harmonious biodiversity.
