Is architecture art or science?

Neither!

In fact, Architecture is an art that is applicable when one understands all the elements of architecture for instance logistics, imagination, psychology, physics, mathematics, experience, and craftsmanship even for some it’s a medication towards a relaxing and nurturing life. The practise of architecture is employed to fulfil both empirical and expressive requirements, and thus it serves both utilitarian and aesthetic ends. However, with other expressive mediums, it changes with styles, technologies, and cultural adaptations.

It’s all about mastering the art of reality.

“Architecture is a fusion of art and science.”

The Importance of Architecture

At its roots, architecture exists to make the physical surroundings within which folks live, however design is quite simply the designed environment, it’s also a part of our culture and the Aura it creates. It stands as a representation of how we see ourselves, as well as how we see the futuristic world.

The practise of architecture is employed to fulfil both empirical and expressive requirements, and thus it serves both utilitarian and aesthetic ends. However, with other expressive mediums, it changes with styles, technologies, and cultural adaptations.

Art is a vital tool for architecture as it helps to fully explore the parameters of the future. Progressive styles such as modernism, minimalism, parametrics, sustainability with an archetypal balance of environmental sensitivity are also an art form that, in the sense of the balanced integration of artistic sensitivity and scientific methodology is therefore used by architects to study and develop concepts on innumerable levels that are necessary for the creation of buildings.

Art and design have ingrained an association that connects architects through their design and thus their meanings, Both are created with consistent organizational principles, with the synchronization of visual elements and the inclusion of the senses. Art can play an important role in this regard as it is more accessible and perhaps flavored on a more immediate emotional level so that people can identify with a building through art. Here, too, it must be understood as an integral part of the architect: the semantics that art can bring into architecture can also be very effective in communicating with the perceiver and thus adapting their behaviour.

The Anchors of artistic Architecture

Modern architecture is what we appreciate nowadays for its amazing functional and artistic appeal. However, there’s always room for new innovative styles as evolution is the most unpredictable and challenging part of architecture. Let’s appreciate some design philosophies of some modern architects.

Santiago Calatrava, widely known for his sculptural bridges and buildings, expresses an absolute blend of architecture and engineering capabilities at their best. Being a sculptor and a Painted only added to it and he though unknowingly advocated the philosophy of what a true Designer should be, encompassing all forms of arts.

Renzo Piano, an Italian architect best known for his high-tech public spaces, particularly his design (with Richard Rogers) for the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, believes in people-centric philosophy is the heart of the design process and that better buildings make a better world. A successful building improves daily life for the people who live and work around it. For Piano, the high-tech sense manifests through his ambition to always find the most rational answer to an architectural brief.

Bjarke’s approach to architectural design is to experiment with space to create buildings that offer solutions to current problems. Its architecture is a combination of the exploration of life, leisure and work and together tests the balance of programmatic mixtures in the triple bottom line. Ingels describes the role of architecture in changing society by adapting it to our wishes: “When something no longer fits, we architects have the ability – and the responsibility – to ensure that our cities do not force us to act on us the outdated vestiges of the past, but it adapts to the way we want to live ”.

Some other architects such as Zaha Hadid, Norman Foster and Richard Rogers expressed a great desire to introduce new perspectives in order to change the atmosphere. The stories of these architects told of their perception of the world and the creation of its artistic volumes, it seems that it is not necessary to follow the existing tessellation but to promote new forms of life, with the main intention of integrating art into the architecture, however there are certain restrictions here.

Functionality Or Aesthetics

The two most significant factors within the design of a building are from and Function. Functionality is the most important faction of building design. The opposite aspect is aesthetics. Aesthetics is the branch of philosophy that deals with the character and expression of beauty whereas Following the principle and essence of architecture, the look ought to be targeted additional on functionality instead of aesthetics, though in several cases, architects and designers create a balance between these two important elements.

At last, as illustrated above, bringing a new attitude isn’t sufficient to be achieved as an architect. However, to stand firm, how featured and invested one may be in the layout is what tells the other a part of the story!
