The remarkable outcome of an amazing collaboration with RMJM, Enric Miralles, and Benedetta Tagliabue is the new Scottish Parliament. The tagline “The Parliament sits in the land” might be used to sum up the plan. The Salisbury Crags and Holyrood Park backdrop, at the foot of the Royal Mile, proved to be the perfect setting for the building. The plan’s objective was to incorporate a unique structure into the Holyrood environment while defying all recognized conventions regarding architectural composition. Its distinguishing characteristics include sensitivity, size, and the substantial use of wood in the ceiling’s beam and truss structure. The main attraction is the roof, which is supported by large three-dimensional timber trusses and stainless-steel bracing systems. The exteriors are adorned with timber windows and glazing, while the interiors are covered with high-quality oak that reaches the ceiling and roof. The Assembly building, MSP building, and restored Queensberry House have all received “Excellent” BREEAM ratings. They have also won recognitions such as the RIBA Stirling Prize, Scottish Design Awards’ “Architecture Grand Prix,” and the “Urban & Landscape Specialist Award” from the Royal Fine Art Commission.

Due to its remarkable “barbed” design and captivating curved facade, this 462-meter-tall tower occupies an odd place in the St. Petersburg environment. It is the tallest structure in all of Europe and houses the headquarters of the world’s largest energy company, Gazprom. The shape was influenced by the waterways and baroque buildings in Saint Petersburg. The mixed-use tower included commercial, retail, leisure as well as residential development serving more than 5,000 employees and roughly 3,000 visitors a day. Situated on an ex-sand storage yard, it features a park, social and cultural facilities, offices, and a car park with a 2,000-vehicle capacity. Environmental considerations, such as using double-layered skin to maximize daylighting while minimizing heat loss, are taken into account when planning, leading to creative and effective energy-saving solutions. This led to the center winning the Audience Awards 2021 for the best tall building in Europe (400 meters and above). The United States Green Building Council has awarded it a LEED Platinum accreditation.

The museum is home to one of the most extensive and priceless automotive collections, which includes Mohammad Reza Shah, the last Shah of the Pahlavi Dynasty’s personal sports cars, limousines, motorcycles, and carriages. Existing warehouses were to be transformed into museums, giving rise to a rich historical and recreational universe. Ten 30-by-30-meter warehouses totaling 900 square meters each are included. The idea was to construct a world where automobiles serve as cultural icons. The museum is made into a location to experience passing time through the linear corridors created along display paths. It helps visitors understand how the past and present are intertwined.

The 120-bed facility has changed the current standards of healthcare replacing the stereotypical system. RMJM was commissioned for the design of a 120-bed care home. The exemplar building is designed to have a non-institutional character, scale, and layouts making it closely related in architecture and living environment to the two-storey family housing which surrounds adjacent. Arranged with 4 residential wings, all of which are 2 storeys tall, the design creates attractive

south-facing courtyards accessible directly by the residents. The rooms are designed to allow residents to stay in their rooms by accommodating their changing needs over time. The building achieved a BREEAM “Excellent” status and is connected to a district heating system.

This masterpiece was created in collaboration with RMJM Studio and Urban A&O, and it helped us realize that mixed-use spaces may be aesthetically pleasing, avant-garde, and environmentally conscious. The structure, a rising mound with two convex forms planned to maximize use throughout the four seasons, actually speaks for itself. At every level of sport and fitness activity that comes after it, up to roof level, the building’s exterior changes to allow views of the stunning natural surroundings. It intends to complement Stejarii residential, which is itself an icon by virtue of its location in a woodland residential neighborhood.

Rye Hill House, the northern entrance to the Newcastle College campus, houses all of the college’s administrative and student services. According to the firm’s concept, the building will be renovated from the side to the back, with new circulation and triple-height foyers serving as visual cues. Over four stories, a flexible open plan has been created, keeping the key areas next to the lobby. The old building is still home to the offices and meeting areas. The manner RMJM retained the historic building while addressing the problems with circulation and mobility clearly distinguishes the two blocks.

Xingyun Lake Area

Sector: Urban Planning

The lake project, which caught everyone’s attention, developed from strong cultural roots. Commercial offices, cultural experiences, tourism, entertainment, and homes are all a part of this project. Water, the wellspring of life, provides this city’s purpose and offers visitors an ecological experience. Public spaces are organized through a road-water network to safeguard and promote cultural heritage. It ushers in a new era for the town of Xingtan, propelling forward the future for the benefit of the populace. The intriguing aspect of the project is how the locals’ values and cultures have shaped its course of growth, putting water as a showcase for the community.

With a plan of streets, crescents, and clusters, this project was intended to create a new neighborhood in the underdeveloped East End. It is located next to a new cycling route. The project served as a perfect support to facilities. It hosted 6,500 athletes in 700 mixed-tenure homes during the games, turning around the challenging landscape adjacent to the river Clyde. The idea is built around a recognizable street layout with direct connections to Clyde. The Cuningar loop’s biodiverse terrain can now be accessed thanks to the construction of a pedestrian bridge. To connect the location to the city, the already-existing cycling path has been improved. All of the storage and pavilion areas are enclosed on all sides, providing the impression of an urban village. The Saltire prize for large-scale housing development and the RIAS award was won by this project’s remarkable feature, which was also recently hailed in the Architects Journal Magazine.

China the high population city with commercial and retail land uses all around has a small town named Evian, a low-density community with three phases. This scheme came out as a breakthrough from traditional upscaling by mimicking the style of Western suburban counterparts., it rather borrowed its local past while still looking towards the future. It has three phases, phase one has an area of 77,158 square meters with a floor area of 54,100 square meters while phases two and three have a floor area of 70,000 square meters each adding up to 333 residential units. The innovative idea of merging living spaces with nature preserving local topography, and ecology and living spaces having a sense of intimacy with nature brought it awards like AIA Hong Kong Honor Award for Architecture (2006), Architecture Record China Awards, best residential project (2010).

In the King Abdullah Financial District of Saudi Arabia, one of the high-end mixed-use developments includes a novel dynamic design concept that offers mixed-use activities from small to medium-scale firms with a social reach. The design emphasizes accommodations that relate to the sky gardens and cafe terraces by using the “Loft office” idea. Two straightforward concepts—”sculptural yet simple construction base” and “externally monolithic yet internally complex”—have given rise to it. Residential units in the building have a variety of perspectives, which brightens the entire tower internally and adds drama when viewed from nearby streets.

A cutting-edge center for computer resources that houses a research library and offers 300 students access to instruction. extremely energy-efficient building envelope with minimal use of artificial heating and cooling systems the company adhered to the project requirement, which called for a low-energy facility that could house specialized computer equipment and was adaptable enough to allow long-term changes in its use. The fact that the instructional sections are distinct while yet being connected by galleries and bridges for unofficial meetings and circulation helped it win the RIBA Regional 2002 Award as well as the British Construction Industry Award in addition to the stereotypical approach.

The Cornell University is devoted to the study and preservation of birds and their habitats, and it has a visitor center, observatory, storage for collection items, labs, recording studios, and program offices. Being only two floors high, it stands lower than the surrounding trees. Wildlife and wood are too closely related, which is evident from the design as exteriors are created equally to merge in Sapsucker forests. The campus’ terrain, nature paths, and landscaping features add interest, and the contours narrow to a central point of entry that draws visitors in. The university wants to educate tourists about birds along the road, and RMJM has made this possible by consistently bringing the area’s elevation down.

The structure is divided into four volumes and has excellent internal circulation on the third floor. Through careful consideration of every component, including human scale, natural features, architectural elements, watercourses, and pedestrian streets are conserved. This gymnasium won several accolades from the American Institute of Architects for its careful planning and thoughtful volume stacking.

Falkrik Wheel and Visitor center

The Falkrik Wheel_©https://archello.com/project/the-falkirk-wheel-visitor-centre

The first and only rotating boatlift in the world, with a unique design and form, connects two Scottish canals that run in opposite directions. With its brilliant design, it can transport two boats up and down a 35-meter drop in just 15 minutes. Queen Elizabeth II officially launched this storied undertaking, which has since been synonymous with the Scottish Renaissance. Millions of people visit the wheel each year, and the intricately constructed visitor center is so popular that it is represented on the Scottish pound note.
