The Pavilion was built for the Auto Expo 2016, that took place in February at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, for the client Shriram Pistons and Rings Ltd. The overall design of the pavilion was inspired from their product, pistons and rings. As designers, we wanted to bring dynamics and fluidity to the entire form as it would let the visitors flow through the space. The result was an L shaped free flowing form that was directly inspired form the pistons and rings.

One of the major challenge was to construct the curvature form out of the flexi plywood, making the place interesting with a raised floor and a mezzanine floor. The flexi ply was finished with putty and paint, at the same time making the strong lines of the piston rings evident. The sides of the curves were treated to give the feel of piston ring stacked together. A monochromatic theme was adopted to keep the pavilion simple yet elegant and noticeable.
Another major challenge was to construct the entire structure in a time frame of 24 to 36 hours. All the materials had to be brought to the site and assemble on site within the time frame to achieve the required finish.
The exhibit tables and the piston obelisks , derived from the concept of piston pins and tops had a huge role in attracting the crowd. The design process also involved a good coordination between the consultants’ viz. graphic design, audio-visual engineering, digital media and lighting design.
