1. Zero Studio, Manjeri
Based at Malappuram, Zero Studio is a creative studio working on a variety of architecture, interiors, landscape, product design, art, graphics and publicity designs. Led by principal architects Hafeef PK, Hamid MM, Zero studio claims to be more of an art studio as their works involve a blend of architecture and related fields. This multi-award winning studio believes that it’s a little too early for them to form a philosophy as it would restrict them from free thinking and experimentation in architecture.
2. Wallmakers Studio, Kochi
Ar. Vinu Daniel loves experimenting with all kinds of materials from mud and scrap to practically anything that is sustainable! His meeting with Laurie Baker in the earlier days shaped his design philosophy. After his training from Auroville Earth Institute, he founded Wallmakers in 2007.The name of the firm comes the Architect’s brother who called him and his team by the same name for the several walls designed for a project in the initial days. Though the firm has done bigger projects but the name stuck. The firm has won many awards for various projects.
3. Varghese Panicker Architects, Trivandrum
Established in 1992 by Varghese Panicker, the firm works on both Indian and foreign projects. Their projects include apartments, offices, hospitals, and residences. The firm draws inspiration from landscape, and are always excited about new possibilities.
4. TWOi Architects, Calicut
An architectural practice by Ar. Noufal C Hashim, the firm is a design and concept oriented architectural consultancy that focuses on custom architecture and is committed to excellence in Architecture, Planning, Landscape and interior design.
5. Thought Parallels, Calicut
Formed by Nikhil and Shabna, Thought Parallels is born out of complexities and contradictions. Just like how the seminal work of Robert Venturi portrays architecture, they believe their work reflects the inherent richness of experience.
6. Thoughtful Natives – TN+ Architects, Calicut
Thoughtful Natives is a bunch of young architects and designers fully committed in the field of creative design led sectors and bringing them to reality. TN+ Architects is headed by Architect and Urban Designer Thoufil Salim.
Founded in 1989 by Ar. Tony Joseph, the Stapati Calicut office is segregated into separate studios for effective organization and management, with each studio having their niche typologies. In addition to the key focus areas of master planning for large scale developments and premier hospitality projects, the office handles projects over a wide repertoire, both internationally and within the country – commercial complexes, housing projects, institutional buildings, individual residences as well interior designs. Located opposite the banks of the Canoly canal, the unique office spaces with open studios connected to nature are a true reflection of their practice and philosophy.
8. Space Art, Calicut
Founded on Laurie Baker’s philosophy of Sustainable Design, Space Art was formed by Vinod Cyriac and Anita Choudhuri. They have a very interesting portfolio which includes residential, institutional, hospitality, group housing and interior projects. In addition to their good quality of work, they also have a beautifully designed workspace.
9. Soumya & Jills Architects, Kochi
The studio feels that architecture is a celebration of space, and a canvas to capture life. Their work is characterized by sensitivity to place, context and user identities.
10. SOHO Architects, Calicut
From a small office at Ar. Suhail A.K.’s home to an expanded firm in 2016, SOHO Architects does mainly residential projects. Their projects showcase responsiveness to the place, time and individual. They do not have any hard core design principles but every design is shaped by geography and how occupants address it. They believe in simplicity, humbleness and importance of details. The name comes from small office home office perception that it had, hence abbreviated as SOHO.
11. Silpi Architects, Kochi
The firm has done many religious projects, residences, institutional and few commercial projects. Formed in 2000 at Kochi, it has also done turnkey projects for townships, multi-storeyed apartments, religious buildings, institutions, resorts, and other projects.
