Buganvilla house is located in the city centre, in a plot between party walls. It is aligned to the road in the totality of its facade in order to comply with the local regulations. Initially, a compact volume is planned, which is gradually lightened by subtracting parts to give rise to full and empty spaces in order to enhance permeability and achieve the appearance of a detached house.

One of these emptying spaces is the one that spatially connects the entire plot, allowing a visual connection between the garden and the street while not detracting from the useful surface area of the house program, as it is a multifunctional space that operates as an extension of the courtyard, where the semi-covered areas occasionally act as a garage.  On the ground floor, the facade enclosure is of vital importance to achieve this effect, that is why a lattice of laminated steel has been designed to give access to the dwelling, a grid based on horizontal slats that provides privacy and connects the succession of spaces in the dwelling with the exterior.

Despite being located between party walls, the aim is to create a sense of oasis in the centre of the city so that the garden and pool area can be enjoyed all year round. In the warmer months, the covered areas take on vital importance, controlling the sunlight to improve energy efficiency and creating a transition between indoors and outdoors.

House program

The house distributes its program over two floors above ground level. On the ground floor, the living areas, living-dining room, kitchen, bathroom and utility room can be found. In addition, to increase the feeling of spaciousness, the living-dining room and kitchen spaces open onto the garden with large south-facing windows. In the morning the light enters directly, while in the afternoon, the sunset and the vegetation colour the different materials used, being the light the protagonist of the room.

On the first floor there are three bedrooms, a bathroom, a study and the master bedroom, which is accessed through a dressing room, and has its own bathroom and terrace.

STUDIO PROFILE

A2j Arquitectos is an architecture studio founded in 2013 by Jose Miguel Iglesias and Ana Barrueco. Specialising in the design of residential projects, it bases its practice on the development of a bespoke architecture. With designs adapted to the particular needs and conditions of each client, they work from the detail through technical solutions and budget control from the beginning of the project to the end of the work.

Each project is unique and is treated in a handcrafted manner, following a design process that includes an exhaustive analysis of the site, location and programme requirements until a concept or idea is generated, which the team transmits through diagrams, sketches and references that help the visualisation and understanding of the architectural project.

The results are projects with character, accompanied by a close architecture, respectful with each user, the environment and context.
