Archery Summit was founded in 1993 with a mission to explore the full potential of Pinot Noir in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Over the decades, the winery has played a defining role in establishing the region’s reputation for world-class Pinot Noir, operating from a facility purpose-built to manage every step of production—from grape to bottle—with aging taking place in caves carved deep into the hillside.

Originally built before the rise of wine tourism, the facility lacked spaces designed for visitors. Through an invitation-only design competition, Heliotrope was selected to reimagine the guest experience while working sensitively with the existing architecture.
The new tasting room is carefully nestled into an existing patio and garden—the site’s only flat area—and incorporates an existing cave entrance as a central feature, drawing guests into the winemaking and aging process.
A 100-foot-long colonnade forms the new façade, visually uniting old and new elements while providing welcome shade. Inside, expansive sliding glass panels open to sweeping views of the Dundee Hills, creating a seamless connection between indoors and out. A continuous skylight illuminates the retaining wall opposite the colonnade, balancing natural light throughout the space, while trees planted directly into the floor further blur the boundary between the built and natural environment.
