Recently, under new leadership, the decision was made to renovate and reconfigure this area to align with contemporary standards, infusing it with a fresh identity that signals the start of a new chapter.
Project Name: Mercantel Restaurant
Studio Name: Paulo Martins Arquitectura

Developed in collaboration with the new head chef, the goal was to establish a visual and functional identity that envelops everything from the culinary processes to the general ambiance of the restaurant, aiming to deliver a complete and indulgent experience to customers.

The design choices favored an intimate setting, using earthy tones and soft lighting to create an environment of ease, comfort, and intimacy. Two large communal tables along with three bars were deliberately placed to foster communal dining and interaction, while separate tables, anchored by an expansive shared couch, offer more secluded dining options.

Drawing inspiration from the bounty of Mediterranean cuisine, Mercantel transcends being merely a dining venue; it is a place where culinary memories are forged.

The interior design mirrors the serene and picturesque nature of the Mediterranean, ensuring each visit provides a tranquil retreat from everyday life. The open kitchen stands as a focal point of this redesign, maintaining constant visual engagement with the dining area, thus allowing patrons to witness the entire meal preparation process. This openness emphasizes the art of cooking and establishes a seamless rapport between the chef and the diners, promoting a sense of openness and a culture of sharing and closeness.
