Located within a mountain ski resort, Chalet Restaurant by SOIA Design transforms the familiar concept of a chalet into an immersive architectural experience. Rather than simply providing a place to dine, the project creates an environment where materials, light, and craftsmanship evoke the atmosphere of the surrounding alpine landscape.

Every design decision contributes to a narrative inspired by the wilderness, offering guests a memorable journey beyond traditional hospitality.
The objective was to establish a recognizable destination at the heart of the resort—a welcoming retreat where visitors arriving from the slopes could transition from the cold mountain environment into a space defined by warmth, comfort, and sensory richness. Inspired by the character of European mountain lodges, the design reinterprets traditional chalet architecture through a contemporary lens, balancing authenticity with refined luxury.
Bringing the Forest Inside
The interior is conceived as an extension of the surrounding woodland. Natural tree trunks wrap structural columns and walls, creating the impression of walking through a sculpted forest. Organic textures dominate the space, reinforcing the connection between architecture and nature.
The fireplace forms the emotional center of the restaurant. Finished with handcrafted ceramic tiles and rugged granite, it recalls ancient mountain hearths while serving as a gathering point for guests. Above, a ceiling clad in warm larch wood reflects natural light throughout the day, adding depth and softness to the interior. The contrast between raw natural materials and carefully crafted details defines the atmosphere, making the space feel both authentic and sophisticated.
Tailored Furniture an d Atmospheric Lighting
Every furniture piece was custom designed specifically for the project. Thick solid-wood tables emphasize permanence and craftsmanship, while upholstered suede seating introduces softness and comfort after a day outdoors.
Lighting plays an equally important role in shaping the experience. Crystal chandeliers provide elegant focal points, while pendant fixtures inspired by icicles capture and diffuse light, echoing the frozen mountain landscape. Together, these elements create an atmosphere that shifts effortlessly between intimacy and celebration.
The design narrative extends into every corner of the restaurant, including the bathrooms. Here, textured natural stone reflects light with a subtle crystalline shimmer, creating the impression of frost-covered rock surfaces. These carefully considered details reinforce the immersive quality of the overall experience.
A Contrast Between Warmth and Winter
Outside, the architectural story continues onto the terrace. A sculptural fence composed of Erklez glass stones glows with amber tones reminiscent of flowing lava suspended in time. This unexpected element introduces a striking contrast to the cool interior palette, symbolizing the hidden geothermal forces beneath the mountains.
The dialogue between fire and ice becomes a recurring theme throughout the project, expressing the powerful duality of the alpine environment through architecture and material selection.
An Experience Beyond Hospitality
Chalet Restaurant is designed as more than a dining venue—it is an immersive destination where architecture becomes part of the guest experience. Wood, stone, glass, and fire work together to create a setting that engages all the senses and celebrates the beauty of mountain living.
With this project, SOIA Design reimagines the contemporary alpine restaurant by combining regional identity with meticulous craftsmanship and expressive materiality. The result is a destination that feels timeless, distinctive, and deeply connected to its natural surroundings.
