The $800 million transformation of Bank of America Stadium represents one of the most ambitious venue overhauls in NFL history, anchoring the Carolina Panthers and Charlotte FC to Uptown Charlotte through 2045 while redefining what a live sports experience can look like in the modern era. Construction began in 2026, with phases running through 2029, turning a 30-year-old stadium into a blueprint for the next generation of professional sports infrastructure.
The Construction Team Behind the Overhaul
Clark Construction and D.A. Everett Construction, working as a joint venture, are leading the $800 million renovation of Bank of America Stadium under the direction of Tepper Sports and Entertainment. CAA Icon is serving as project manager and owner’s representative, while HOK, the St. Louis-based architecture firm that originally designed the stadium in the mid-1990s, has returned to provide design services for the transformation.
The Charlotte City Council approved $650 million in debt to fund the project, with tourism and hospitality tax revenue covering 80 percent of the total cost. Tepper Sports and Entertainment is contributing $150 million directly, plus an additional $117 million already invested in prior upgrades and an estimated $571 million in future capital improvements, bringing the combined investment between the organization and the City of Charlotte to over $1.3 billion.
Technology at the Core of the Renovation
The entire bowl will be outfitted with next-generation video capabilities, new scoreboards, cutting-edge LED video signage, and a state-of-the-art sound system engineered to keep every fan immersed from kickoff to the final whistle. The stadium has also upgraded to AI-powered Evolv Express Gen2 concealed weapons screening technology, a frictionless security system designed to process thousands of fans without disrupting the arrival experience.
As the stadium evolves into a next-generation live entertainment hub, the broader ecosystem surrounding North Carolina sports is evolving just as rapidly, from expanded digital engagement to the regulated fan economy growing alongside it.
Fans tracking everything from the Panthers’ rebuild to the latest offers shaping how North Carolinians engage with their teams can take advantage of sportsbook welcome offers to get started on their betting journeys.
Exterior Video Boards and the City as Extension of the Venue
Exterior video boards will transform the stadium’s outer skin into a live broadcast surface, enabling open-air watch parties and dissolving the boundary between being inside the venue and the city block surrounding it.
The renovation also includes a reimagined South Lawn Pavilion area designed to function as a community gathering space or outdoor classroom on game days and non-event days alike.
Arts and culture elements will be woven throughout the design to reflect the regional culture of the Carolinas, while enhancements to the stadium exterior are intended to reinforce its place as an iconic fixture of the Charlotte skyline. Improved accessibility throughout the facility will ensure that individuals with a range of disabilities can move through the space without barriers.
The Experience Center: Letting Fans Step Into the Future
The most forward-looking element of the project may be how fans are being invited to experience the renovation before a single seat is replaced. A privately-funded Bank of America Stadium Experience Center, designed by experiential firm Advent, will open at 720 South Church Street in Uptown Charlotte in time for the 2026 Panthers season.
The 15,700-square-foot center will feature dynamic hologram moments, replicated club lounge spaces, and an interactive stadium model showcasing key design elements.
At the heart of the experience is the Immersive Cube, a cutting-edge technology that lets guests step inside detailed renderings, explore the scale of the transformation, and inhabit spaces that do not yet physically exist. Lowe’s, headquartered in Mooresville, North Carolina, is serving as the Official Stadium Renovation Partner of Bank of America Stadium.
A Multi-Sport Destination Under Active Construction
The renovation unfolds in phases through 2029, during which the stadium will host the MLS All-Star Game on July 29, signaling the venue’s ambition to operate as a world-class multi-sport destination even while being rebuilt.
Bank of America Stadium already hosts the Carolina Panthers and Charlotte FC, and its event calendar has grown from around 12 football-focused events annually to approximately 40 ticketed events per year, a figure that has tripled since 2018. The combined investment between Tepper Sports and Entertainment and the City of Charlotte exceeds $1.3 billion, locking both franchises into Uptown Charlotte through 2045 and anchoring Charlotte’s accelerating rise as a significant American sports city.
Inclusion and Community Investment Built Into the Project
The renovation includes specific targets for minority-owned and women-owned business participation in the construction work, with 15 percent of work designated for minority-owned small businesses and 12 percent for women-owned companies. Both D.A. Everett Construction and R.J. Leeper Construction, which is delivering the new indoor field house on the team’s existing nine-acre practice field near the stadium, are minority-owned companies.
Since 2018, Tepper Sports and Entertainment-related entities have contributed more than $44 million to nonprofit organizations across the region, with $28 million of that directed to Charlotte and the surrounding area. The renovation is being used as a vehicle to build the capacity of regional small and minority-owned business enterprises alongside the physical transformation of the venue itself.
