This 6th-floor minimalist penthouse is entirely white and cosily situated above Regent’s Canal in King’s Cross, enjoying picturesque marina vistas. Project Name: King’s Cross Roof Garden
Studio Name: Mylandscapes LTD

We created the main roof garden for our clients, and 4 years later remade the back terrace facing the city featuring Olive trees & Carnations, to echo our clients’ life in Spain, living in Barcelona alternately. Photos by Marianne Majerus.

The north-facing roof garden features Himalayan birch trees, Pittosporum, Pseudopana, Agapanthus, native Juncus rushes & herbs, all selected to cope in the highly windy aspect. Designed as low-maintenance for busy clients, the roof garden fulfils a key role in maintaining a strong indoor-outdoor connection with the open-plan apartment, repeating its white interior in planter powder-coating & surface.

The design is symmetrical, where the sandstone paved area is bordered by hardwood decks, fringed by LED strip lights. Flanking the deck are 2 low boat-shaped white vases, where grassy Libertia perennials and native Rushes grow. LED tape amplifies the cavities of the pair of large focal point white planters, adding ambient warmth.

These planters reiterate the shapes of the nearby architecture of Kings Place Concert Hall, a touching distance over the canal. As the sun sets above St Pancras & BT Tower, our clients frequent the terrace to read, sip a glass of wine, or host a lively get-together.
