The Argaric people occupied a portion of the present-day municipality throughout the late Chalcolithic and Bronze Ages. The Iberians were the inhabitants of the present-day municipality during the late Bronze Age and the Iron Age. A unique location is a religious structure known as the De la Luz Iberian Sanctuary. There are signs of human presence in the Iberian Peninsula during the time of Roman authority. Castillo de Los Garres, a fortification in the southern portion of the municipality’s northern half, is a late Roman-era building on the Iberian Peninsula.
