Anchorage is located in Alaska. Archaeological evidence uncovered near Beluga Point on the Turnagain Arm, just south of Anchorage, suggests that the Cook Inlet was first inhabited 5,000 years ago by a tribe of Alutiiq Eskimos who arrived by kayak. Following this population’s departure, the second wave of Alutiiq settlers arrived around 4,000 years ago, followed by a third wave around 2,000 years ago. The entrance of Dena’ina Athabaskans, who invaded through mountain passages, displaced the Chugach Alutiiq around 500 AD.
