Nis is the administrative centre of the Nisava region in Serbia and the country’s third-largest city. It is located in the southern part of the country. The town was the seat of the Serbian army and was its major headquarters during the First Balkan War against the Ottoman Empire. Many Roman Emperors also used the region as their residences, including Constantine the Great. It was named the Imperial city due to its role throughout the history of the Byzantine Empire.
