Maceió is Alagoas’s capital and largest city, a coastal city in Brazil. It is known for its numerous beaches and the emerald green and blue colour of the sea. The city has many natural pools and reefs and is famous for its white sand and coconut plantations. The city was founded in 1815 when a settlement moved to the area, and villas and houses were constructed in the process. It is home to many colonial buildings, including the Government Palace, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Historical Institute of Alagoas, etc.
