Neuquén is located near the confluence of the Limay and Neuquén rivers, which form the Negro River in Argentina. It is the largest city in the Patagonia region. The city was developed as a market centre in 1904 for surrounding agricultural areas. Over the years, the city has evolved to produce many wine cellars, manufacturing industries and oil fields. Due to the El Chocon Dam construction on the Limay River, the city has grown to become a centre for fruit processing.
