Concepción is a city in the central region of Chile and is an important domestic trade centre. It lies near the mouth of the Biobio river and is the capital of the province. It is one of the country’s largest cities and was founded in 1550 by Pedro de Valdivia. The region was burned down twice and was struck by numerous earthquakes and tidal waves. The city is now known as a university city due to the presence of multiple universities in the region. It became a major cultural and industrial centre due to the advantages of its natural location.
