“La Almacena, AN L SHAPED PIECE OF FURNITURE BETWEEN PAST AND PRESENT.

Located in the colourful Cabanyal district of Valencia, known as the old fisherman neighbourhood of the city, this project beautifully blends the past and the present, giving a new breath to this century-old building’s apartment.

Our primary objective was to preserve the apartment’s historical essence while introducing more modern design concepts. The focal point of our design, an L-shaped furniture installation, pays homage to the apartment’s unique history. Inspired by the position of the old food storage place at the core of the apartment, the furniture now serves as a bridge connecting different eras. Moreover, this element seamlessly connects various living spaces, enhancing functionality and circulation in a brighter space.

We took special care in restoring essential architectural elements, including carpentry, beams, and vaults. The antique cement tiles, were meticulously restored and left in their original positions. These tiles serve both structuring and aesthetic purposes, defining separate areas within the apartment. They become testament to the apartment’s historic layout, witnessing its footprint and preserving a connection to the architectural past while engaging in a captivating dialogue with the present.
