This charming Victorian Flat in Presidio Heights, San Francisco goes through a major transformation resulting in a beautiful contemporary aesthetic that still maintains classic woodwork details that are a notable feature of Victorian homes.

The Flat was built in the 1890’s and had gas chandeliers that were replaced with simple and contemporary, milky globe light pendants. The outdated carpet throughout the flat and the laminate floors in the kitchen were removed which revealed beautiful original pine wood floors underneath. The floors were then sanded and stained in a warm brown with a touch of subtle gray undertones.
The kitchen was remodeled to include stainless steel appliances and shaker style cabinets with black accents seen in the hardware and the pantry door to provide a nice contrast against the white cabinets and light walls. Using consistent paint colors, flooring, and light fixtures throughout the flat helped unify a somewhat inconsistent Victorian layout. The Flat was transformed from dark and outdated to bright and contemporary.
The remodel was meant to appeal to mid-30’s tech professionals as the Flat had been a rental for over 35 years. However, after the renovation was completed, the homeowner decided to make a big change and moved into the newly renovated Flat – up into the light and beautiful views of the treetops.
