THE SITE AND THE CLIENT BRIEF:
The project is a lavish 5-BHK apartment with a lake view in the tranquil suburbs of Ahmedabad. The client’s brief was to have a low maintenance, comfortable & opulent home without utilizing loud materials or flamboyant finishes. The challenge here was to create a spacious and clutter-free design, incorporating as much storage as possible. Hence the material finishes and fixtures are handpicked for the client.

The living area has two sections, one with formal seating and the other with a dining and breakfast counter. One of the structural changes we made was to eliminate the wall between the hall and the kitchen area. Thus, the planning is done in such a way that the spaces are free-flowing right from the foyer to the living, dining, and kitchen area without any walls or partitions giving it a seamless feel. A small breakfast counter overlooks the kitchen area visually connecting yet separate from the living space.
The major part of the structural changes was done to make the kitchen look bigger and spacious. We eliminated a few walls and shifted the utility and storage area at the back. Also, as the apartment has a lake view on one side, the client wanted to have a lake view from the kitchen while cooking, to cater to that requirement, we shifted the hob facing the wall earlier to the window with a lake view.
Right on the threshold, you are welcomed with a grand entrance door that leads to the foyer area which in turn opens up into the spacious living cum dining space. The foyer area houses decorative bevelled bronze mirror panelling, which adds a touch of luxury while also reflecting light and expanding the view of the space. The cabinet in the foyer area is custom made which can be utilized for storage and to display the prized possessions by the owner, hinting at what lies within the home. Completing the whole setting with simplicity and elegance is the gorgeous gold tinted base crystal chandelier.
With neutral walls and warm teak veneer, the entrance sets the tone for the rest of the house. The neutral palette acts as a backdrop to the delicate pastel soft furnishings, with a hint of gold in the detailing, making it look regal & elegant. The intent was to have a minimal and contemporary design that is soothing to the eyes.
On one side of the living area, the home theatre and pooja room door flush seamlessly with the long-stretched veneer wall panelling, with a white PU console table seated in front of it and a life-size painting placed just above it, adding the right charm and unusual simplicity to the entire space. The artwork blends in beautifully with the interiors – without appearing alienated and stands out as natural brush strokes and human imperfections.
The 3-seater bold pink velvet channel-tufted sofa acts as a statement piece, adding an element of quirk and unexpectedness to the house. It comes off as a pleasant contrast to the understated and subtle palate. The patterned carpet helps to break the monotony of the space, while the mid-century style pale pink armchair compliments the entire setup.
Moldings add a unique structural expression to the space. Moldings behind the bold pink sofa, with the combination of, a gold-plated metal and crystal glass wall washer light, illuminates the off-white walls, adding a touch of sophistication and enhancing the visual appeal of the space. The custom-made chandelier is the focal point of the living and dining area.
For the master bedroom, we kept minimal design using a combination of veneer and fluted teak wooden panelling. To balance this out we did moldings on the wall along with the decorative lights and off-white tufted headboard. Thus, creating a perfect backdrop behind the bed.
The other three rooms have muted colour palettes of off-whites and beige to create a pleasant and relaxed feel in each bedroom. The design draws attention to various accents from cozy corner ledge seating in two of the bedrooms overlooking the lush greenery and lake outside to comfortable lounge chairs in the master bedroom.
The home theatre is all about music, movies, dime lights, & nicely done acoustics. It is the main highlight of the apartment where people can relax, rejuvenate and appreciate spending time with family and friends.
The details on the wall, contemporary furnishings, statement artwork, ambient lighting, & metallic golden fittings add just the right amount of charm and subtleness to the space. Thus, a simple colour palette, clean lines, and a combination of different materials can create an inviting and comforting space.
