Designing the multi-storey residential bungalow, Marine Bay House, situated in the prestigious Malabar Hills of Walkeshwar, was both an exciting and creatively enriching endeavor. Enveloped by towering, mature trees and abundant natural greenery, the location offered a unique opportunity to blend classical sophistication with the tranquility of nature. The project revolved around restoring a historic structure that had endured years of aging, transforming it into an opulent yet refined residence that embodied the client’s discerning taste and passion for art.

The client, a distinguished industrialist with a keen appreciation for luxury and aesthetics, played an active role throughout the design process. His strong support for local artists and openness to innovation influenced distinctive design features across the home. Having collaborated with the client for over two decades, we shared an intuitive understanding and seamless communication, allowing us to craft a truly personalized and exceptional living space.
The project’s design revolved around three key aspects: the exterior, interior, and landscaping. The façade was rejuvenated with classical features such as balconies, canopies, custom moldings, and expanded windows to enhance natural light and elevate the architectural grandeur. A pristine white palette was chosen for the exterior, evoking an enduring sense of elegance. Open balconies furnished with comfortable outdoor seating and swings were incorporated to foster relaxation amid the lush greenery.
Inside, the layout was reconfigured to maximize both functionality and luxury. The staircase underwent a complete redesign, a lift was installed, and the terrace was transformed into a serene retreat featuring sit-outs, a waterfall, and a jacuzzi—ideal for social gatherings and cocktail events. Bathrooms were upgraded with premium fixtures, ceilings were intricately detailed, and the entire house was illuminated with customized lighting to complement the mood and purpose of each space. The interiors showcased marble flooring with rich textures, alongside carefully curated imported furniture that harmonized with thoughtfully selected artwork and artifacts, enhancing the ambiance.
The spatial planning was meticulously executed to optimize comfort and efficiency. The ground floor featured a grand entrance lobby accompanied by a home gym and a home theatre. The first floor housed the client’s executive office, an open bar, and a guest room. The second floor was dedicated to entertainment, comprising an elegant sitting area centered around a piano, an expansive dining area overlooking verdant landscapes, and a state-of-the-art kitchen with servant quarters. The third floor accommodated two opulent master bedrooms along with two well-appointed children’s rooms.
Landscaping played a pivotal role in reinforcing the design philosophy. Mature trees were carefully preserved, and additional greenery was introduced to evoke a resort-like atmosphere. The outdoor spaces were enhanced with elements such as a pool, a mandir, a waterfall, and a glasshouse featuring an outdoor bar counter, offering a picturesque setting for leisure and social gatherings. Skilled artisans adorned the external walls with bespoke artwork, adding depth and visual intrigue to the residence.
Ultimately, Marine Bay House stands as an exquisite synthesis of heritage restoration, contemporary luxury, and natural serenity. Through collaboration with various agencies and artisans, we successfully brought the client’s vision to life, crafting a residence that proudly establishes its presence within the cityscape. Marked by its historical significance and exceptional geographical setting, this project remains a crowning achievement in our portfolio.
