With 125 sqm of outdoor space, this Shad Thames roof garden surveys Central London on 4 sides, with views of the Shard and Canary Wharf. Renovations included a new skylight, handrails, screens, split-level decking, tiles, grass, a custom bar, benches & bespoke planters.
Project Name: Shad Thames Roof Garden
Studio Name: Mylandscapes LTD

Created for 2 sisters, we designed 3 planter pairs, powder-coated in mauve & heliotrope. This elevation adds a rhythmic element, vibrant colour and screens the offices opposite with evergreen Pseudopanax shrubs from New Zealand.

Hot and sunny, the roof garden features many Antipodean floras, from Bottlebrushes to Libertia & Cortrea, as well as Mediterranean species such as Thyme, Arabis & Mexican lilies, culminating in a mature Olive tree in the top corner planted in a tapered white planter.
A two-tone fabric screen woven into the handrail on the building’s internal courtyard side adds privacy, contrasted by the zingy orange foliage of Libertia ‘Goldfinger’. A corner bench & custom-built bar make this area a vibrant social hub.

For the young sisters who love entertaining large groups of guests, this alfresco rooftop provides year-round amenities, with furniture, hammock, speakers & a grass picnic zone by the river elevation.

LED strip lighting features throughout the garden, highlighting the deck steps and planter cavities. Light rectangular tiles contrast the warm hardwood tones with a low-maintenance ethos in mind. Facilitating the project was enabled by utilising the building’s internal courtyard, where vehicular access meant we could hire a furniture lift hoist to convey all materials & plants to the 5th-floor rooftop.
