The Birth of Giorgio Armani:

In 1957, Armani joined the Milan department store La Rinascente as a sales clerk and window dresser following a two-year military service. He was in charge of displaying the first clothes of the avant-garde Finnish textile, apparel, and home furnishings brand Marimekko the same year at the store. Later on, he worked as a menswear department vendor. He learned a lot about the marketing side of the fashion industry in that role. After moving to the Nino Cerruti firm in the middle of the 1960s, Armani began designing menswear. Because of his high-demand abilities, Armani continued to work for Cerruti for the next ten years, but he also did freelance work, sending designs to as many as ten manufacturing facilities at once.

When Giorgio Armani first met architectural draftsman Sergio Galeotti in the late 1960s, a long-lasting personal and professional friendship was established. Galeotti convinced him to set up a design studio at 37 Corso Venezia in Milan in 1973. Following this, there was a lengthy period of cooperation and collaboration in which Armani designed fashion for a number of houses, including Allegri, Bagutta, Hilton, Sicons, Gibò, Montedoro, and Tendresse, on a freelance basis. After the runway displays at the Sala Bianca in the Pitti Palace in Florence, the world press quickly recognized Armani’s significance and he was able to expand on his style development through the encounter.

On July 24, 1975, Giorgio Armani was founded in Milan by Galeotti, indicating his desire to focus on his own business. In October 1976, he unveiled his first men’s ready-to-wear collection as well as a women’s line under his brand for the spring-summer seasons.
