IDEA

The project of a service building located in Strzegom includes three basic functions: a brewery, a restaurant and a bowling alley. The common feature of these zones is the characteristic linear arrangement of the rooms, which directly results from their purpose. The brewery area is focused around the Kaspar Schulz process line, representing the process of beer production. The restaurant is divided into parts in a strip layout, which allows for the gradation of zones from light to dark, from common to private or from noisy to quiet. The bowling lanes give the space a characteristic elongated look resulting from the direction and movement of the game. In order to emphasise the common feature of the three main functions of the building, the idea of the design is naturally perceptible linearity.

MULTI-TRACT BUILDING

During the design process, the building was divided into three parallel strips arranged in a linear pattern. Each part was assigned one of the three functions of the building: a restaurant, a brewery and a bowling alley. The brewery situated in the central part of the building becomes its heart and a link between the other zones. The building’s technological and scientific function is highlighted in this way. The three main functional lanes are then subdivided into further smaller sub-functions. This is a direct consequence of the intended use of the rooms, but at the same time strongly, it emphasises the linear character of the space. The result is an interesting and clear structure which creates the unique character of the building from the viewer’s point of view. In order to differentiate the structure, some of the walls dividing the building into strips have been thickened. In the thickness of the partitions it is possible to hide storage spaces, but also to expose, for example, shelves with beer produced. This allows the dynamism of the building to be visible from the outside.

ARC

Another element that appears in the structure of parallel stripes is the arch. With the help of arches, we will create passages between the walls. Apart from their communicative function, arches refer to the character of old breweries and cellars. They give a unique atmosphere to the interior. In order to mark clear communication between the building zones, there is a perpendicular cut through all walls. Passing through the arched corridor, the user can get to know and understand the structure of the entire building by passing the various functions. In addition to the main communication, there are many other arched cut-outs in the walls, which create mutual relationships between functions. In this way, for example, the kitchen is open to both the bowling alley and the restaurant, and in the spaces between the walls, you can see a beautiful view of the panorama of Strzegom..

MATERIALS AND LANDSCAPING

The clear structure of the building is based on the parallel positioning of the walls that divide the different functions. In order to highlight the idea, the walls have been accentuated by a characteristic material – concrete with red pigment. This also creates a natural reference to the brick breweries of the past using modern materials. The building structure is further emphasised by large glass façades between the individual walls. Within the development area, an extension of the building walls has been designed in the form of concrete strips that divide the garden space into various functions and contain elements of small architecture.

THE THREE FUNCTIONS OF THE BUILDING ARE LOCATED IN PARALLEL STRIPS. THE CHARACTERISTIC LINEAR ARRANGEMENT OF THE ROOMS AND TRACKS IN THE BOWLING ALLEY ALLOWS THE GRADATION OF ZONES TO  BE  EMPHASISED.  CLIMATIC  ARCHED  ENTRANCES  PROVIDE  COMMUNICATION  BETWEEN  INDIVIDUAL SPACES.

TRACT BREWERY

The service building was designed comprehensively – through conceptual design, construction and detailed architecture, followed by an interior, name, and identity design. The idea for the name of the brewery was determined by three important design contexts. Firstly, the building is located in Strzegom by national road no. 5. It is therefore located on one of the main traffic routes in Poland. The designed building, thanks to its characteristic structure of parallel walls, can be called a multi-tract building, where functions have been inscribed into particular routes. Formerly, in the Polish language, the word ‘traktować’ meant to treat, wine and dine, regale, such as ‘He treated her with delicacies’. These three interesting contexts of the building gave rise to the name Tract Brewery.
