The year 2017 was honored to represent eight countries around the world which included Austria, Canada, Germany, Israel, Italy, Singapore, Slovenia, and the US. The design inspection was painted by the leading career makers such as Toyo Ito, architect, William Sawaya, architect + Paolo Maoroni, entrepreneur, Italy, Jeff Shi, Dragonfly, product designer, China and Brigit Lohmann, editor in chief of Designboom. No doubt with 104 shortlisted applications and three winners to select has never been an easy task for any of the judges for the Hirosaki design awards either. Nevertheless, success is like climbing a narrow spiral staircase, it is open to everyone, but the further you climb the stepper the steps, and fewer people can climb up to the top. As a result, the judges had selected 3 winners remarking the prize for each talented winner with a certain amount of money by the Apple Design Awards.

The first winner Hirosaki Apple Design Awards

The 1st Winning Design Award was entitled to Stix. Apple section chopsticks for the grand prix awards of 6,000 euros. The design winner name George Bosnas sailed from Greece was liked the most by the judges as he associated his most famous foods with his design intelligence and created a creative theme of apple-to-apple sushi. As we go into the depth of the designer’s concept evolution, he associated it with two major elements. Firstly Hirosaki is the capital of apples for Japan, secondly, sushi is the most known type of food in Japan and is known all over the world. Combining the most famous eating tool from Japan with the icon of an apple, the designer got the Stix, the chopsticks created to hold the icon in your hands. The top view of the chopsticks represented the great red apples from Hirosaki. Indicating the famous apple and it is there in famous food sushi in the design experience that no one can skip without experimenting.

George Bosnas designed a free version for public experience made of wood, when stocked in multiple reminds an apple tree. It is the beauty of the design that how he has defined simplicity is the art of complex design. Just like a tree, a complex nature with so many tangents of nature could be surprisingly the most usable and identical design for the chopsticks.

In addition, he also proposed a gift version made of marble, that included a surprise, a seed from the Hirosaki apple tree to grow your apple tree, and spreading a notion that taste and experience go hand in hand.
