Since its inception in 1989, SCABAL has been helmed by Dominic and Jon, who passionately oversee a rich variety of projects of all sizes. As a Royal Institute of British Architects Chartered Practice, SCABAL extends its expertise beyond conventional architecture. The studio offers services as architects, landscape designers, interior designers, and RIBA Client Advisers. Their proficiency extends to listed buildings, masterplans, feasibility studies, and the creative discipline of consultation, research, written guidance, and teaching.

 Building Typologies Reflecting Excellence

SCABAL categorizes its diverse body of work into four building typologies. “To Live In” encompasses houses, flats, hotels, sheltered housing, and accessible homes. “To Learn In” includes primary, nursery, and secondary schools, colleges, and entire campuses. “To Work In” comprises HQ office buildings, breweries, shops, factories, film and TV studios. “To Play In” features sports halls, community halls, temples, places of worship, visitor centers, restaurants, and cafes. This broad spectrum showcases SCABAL’s versatility and adaptability across different sectors.

Meet the Visionaries: Dominic Cullinan and Jon Buck

 Dominic Cullinan: A Champion of Educational Architecture

Dominic has been instrumental in directing numerous school projects, including concept designs for educational buildings in Andhra Pradesh, India. Accredited as one of the first RIBA Client Design Advisors, he led SCABAL’s role in the design and procurement of Building Schools for the Future programs. Dominic’s extensive involvement in school projects includes collaborations with the British Council and advising the Egyptian government on school building standards.

 Jon Buck: Shaping Communities through Design

Jon’s recent projects, such as the Fordham Abbey Dojima Sake Brewery and the transformation of Christ Church Primary School in Brick Lane, exemplify his commitment to community-centric design. His meticulous planning, attention to detail, and precise communication showcase his dedication to creating spaces that resonate with the community.
