The building stands out for its distinctive expressionist and art-déco character, which sharply contrasts with the more traditional historicist architecture surrounding it. Positioned along the most representative façade of Puerto Chico, the Siboney building has become a recognizable urban landmark in the city.
The intervention takes this strong architectural identity as its starting point. Characteristic elements such as cylindrical volumes, horizontal bands, porthole windows, red brick surfaces and grey plaster façades form the conceptual basis of the interior design.

From the outset, the aim of the project was to translate the singular language of the Siboney building into the interior of the premises. Rather than reproducing its forms literally, the design interprets its architectural vocabulary through a contemporary spatial approach adapted to the new program.
Curved geometries, circular references and fragmented compositions echo the volumetric logic of the building, generating a fluid and immersive interior atmosphere. These formal gestures are not purely aesthetic; they also organize the functional layout of the space, where the workshop, coffee area and service zones are arranged with clarity and efficiency.

A key aspect of the project is its connection to the local context. For this reason, the design prioritizes natural materials sourced from the region.
The central counter becomes the main architectural element of the space. Conceived as a monolithic and almost brutalist volume, it is crafted from Cantabrian stone — specifically split limestone from Val de San Vicente — reinforcing the project’s link with the territory.
Custom-designed furniture and lighting further define the identity of the interior. Stainless steel was selected as the primary material due to its durability, hygiene and subtle industrial character.

The Atp28 and Atp L400 luminaires reinterpret references from art déco and rationalist design, while integrating contemporary technical solutions. These pieces introduce a distinctive graphic presence that contributes to the spatial narrative.
Lighting plays a fundamental role throughout the project. Beyond its functional purpose, it highlights textures, emphasizes curved geometries and subtly guides visitors through the space.

The project also draws inspiration from Nordic design principles, particularly in its pursuit of formal clarity, functionality and a strong relationship with natural materials.
This philosophy aligns with the concept “Naturally Different”, which defines Atypique’s identity. The idea is reflected not only in its gastronomic offer — focused on specialty coffee and functional beverages — but also in the spatial atmosphere: calm, refined and welcoming.

Rather than blending into its surroundings, Atypique establishes a dialogue with them. It engages with the architectural character of the Siboney building with respect, while asserting its own contemporary identity. In this sense, the project aspires to become, like the building that hosts it, a distinctive presence in the urban landscape of Santander.
