The design maintains the characteristic two-story structure: a ground floor with an almost open-plan space that connects directly to an interior courtyard, and an upper floor dedicated to living areas, featuring large openings that allow abundant natural light while ensuring privacy.
The house establishes a sensitive dialogue with its immediate surroundings. The upper floor opens toward panoramic views of the valley through a corridor reminiscent of traditional local balconies, while the lower volume closely relates to the courtyard, creating an intimate and sheltered space. This arrangement optimizes both distant views and interior privacy.
The project emphasizes the use of materials and construction techniques native to the region, highlighting wood, tile, and adobe, combined with contemporary structural solutions. The wooden roof adds lightness and construction efficiency, reinforcing the home’s sustainable character. The orientation and sizing of the windows, along with the strategic positioning of corridors, enhance natural light use and promote cross ventilation, contributing to a comfortable and healthy indoor environment.
Without constraints limiting its development, Casa GL stands as a contemporary and respectful interpretation of the vernacular architecture of the Vidriales Valley, where tradition and modernity combine to offer a warm, functional home connected to its surroundings.
