This was our third project for the clients. Following 2 courtyard designs in London, we were entrusted with editing, layering & improving the planting in their Tuscany garden. The 20-acre estate is home to hundreds of Olive, Cypress, Pine, Fig & Pomegranate trees, laid out on a hilly terrain, enjoying paradisal vistas of the surrounding misty bucolic landscape and its epic sunrises & sunsets.

With a random accumulation of plants added by the clients over a decade since first renovating the site, there was plenty to edit to create definition in plant groupings. We replanted shrubs & trees, adding many ornamental grasses, herbs & perennials. Key plants included Dietes, Erica, Gaura, Imperata, Miscanthus, Muhlenbergia, Oreganum, Teucrium, Verbena & Westringia – all are Mediterranean species suitable for the sandy, sunny site.
The clients love art, and added 3 beautiful contemporary sculptures in key positions across the site. A large head figure benefits from a classical symmetrical vista lined with topiary.
A bronze circle sits among an expanse of Irises in an asymmetrical modern layout nearer the house. A tall human figure is enveloped by grasses in the upper part by the swimming pool, observing the entire garden.
