Views of Tower Bridge, Gherkin, City and Canary Wharf are framed by architectural plants. A curved sandstone promenade echoes the planters, contrasted by an Oak deck of varying board widths. The angular deck leads the eye towards Canary Wharf, punctuated by a cloud-shaped native Scots pine tree.
LED lighting traces the contours of the planters, increasing depth and infusing a warm ambience. Mediterranean plants thrive in the heat of the back south terrace, with Magnolia, Ceanothus, Palms & Lavenders. In the front north terrace, Phormium creates architectural low silhouettes against the city backdrop, while Photinia adds an evergreen privacy hedge from the neighbours.
Inuit sculpture brought from British Columbia by the client rests on a bespoke plinth, adding artful authenticity. Recessed low bespoke troughs appear floating, lit below and featuring tall plants, culminating in a corner triangular planter for the Pine tree.
Irrigation, lighting, seating and a bbq make this a cosy, low-maintenance roof garden, appreciated via indoor-outdoor linkages of glass elevations. Sculptural detail includes 2-level planters which straddle the deck step in height, with an LED strip light insert in the deck riser, sandwiched between sandstone and Oak.
