Perched atop the Arthaus live & work building in London Fields, East London, this 70-sqm roof garden is a vibrant, colourful & sculptural outdoor space. Designed for an artist, the palette of unique bespoke planters is distinguished by curves, colours & contours.

To the existing deck, we added irrigation, made possible by installing planting on a higher roof and routing supply to the roof garden. A trio of low, curved urns are tinted maroon, mauve and orange, planted with bronze Phormiums.

2 pairs of low recessed troughs floating atop LED lights feature evergreen Photinia hedges to form privacy from the neighbouring terrace.

A trio of arched low red vases is rhythmically positioned in front of the glass windows, featuring variegated Agave plants. 2 pairs of round white tree planters feature Olive trees, with their top aperture offset to the side. The planting scheme is entirely evergreen, undemanding, architectural and low-maintenance.

A Blofield donut seater forms a central focal point for dining and perching, along deck chairs, low tables and a bbq. LED lighting elevates the unique planters and architectural plants, merging into the vista of the Olympic Stadium, where the curvature of Anish Kapoor’s Orbit sculpture is echoed in the roof garden planters’ contours.
