This was the first of 3 projects for the clients, facilitating access to convey all materials, planters and plants to such a high-altitude roof terrace.

Ipe decking continues the conservatory’s surface in an indoor-outdoor fashion, contrasted by buff & blue sandstone paving. We cut squares in the stone to create a composite paver with a buff frame and inner blue part.

Chinese red birch & Ginkgo trees cope well in the blustery environment, good in pollution-resistance too. The trees frame the colossal city views of St Paul’s, Battersea Power Station & London Eye. 2 semi-cantilevered planters with Box hedging frame the aperture in the facade which looks onto the city with the Gherkin a prominent skyline highlight.

Bespoke powder-coated planters contrast from white for trees to turquoise for troughs. A raised podium provides viewing access to the terraces’ bird’s-eye views, otherwise obstructed by the Brutalist in-situ concrete structures of Cromwell Tower.
