Shelter, food, and clothing are three necessities that everybody looks for when venturing into the new world. Architecture is a medium that fulfils the need for a safe and secure shelter. Similarly, food is also a need that keeps growing with the growing demands of the people. The similarity between food and architecture is so deep and simple yet not pondered over very often.

Memories of the Heaven
Architecture defines a space for us, embellishes it, gives it meaning, and narrates a story. It presents the user with an experience that will remain etched in their memories forever. For example, if anybody visits a museum, a fort, or any well-designed structure the experience, and the emotions the person felt while exploring the place will remain as a part of their visit forever in their curious minds.
The notion of food also works similarly. Whenever a person craves a specific food item, they are reminded of their favourite dish they had in some restaurant. Reminiscing their sweet and happy memories of that place. People find themselves cherishing the joyful memories of the past that warm their hearts. Food also creates an experience for the people, and they keep wanting it more and more. The smell of the warm food when it hits the nostrils makes the heart can’t resist the urge to lick the whole plate clean.
If food urges people to come back for more, the ambiance of the restaurant also plays a key role in making sure that the customer won’t forget the delicious tales of the dish, now unravelling in their mouths, bursting with flavours unknown to them.
Similarities of the Beautiful Sin
In architecture before designing, architects first understand the needs of the clients, the users, and they do a complete background study, and then move forward in the project. Architects place different elements in the project and look for the best outcome. These experimentations make their process more authentic and the result is more satisfactory with each attempt.
Similarly, before actually making the dish, chefs do the prepping where they assemble their ingredients, understand their composition, and then start the whole process. They also take several tries when trying out a new recipe. They also make modifications to the dish if they feel like giving it a personal touch.
Just like there is diversity in architecture all around the globe, different food cuisines are available as well. From Chinese to continental to Indian to French and Italian and so many more that are yet to be discovered, yet to be cherished.
Architects and chefs might have a lot of differences but one thing that is common between them is the sensitivity in their thoughts. They both want to deliver something phenomenal to their customers or clients that urges them to have an emotional connection with their product. The generous thought that their user should feel happy and comfortable while experiencing the product is what brings them together.

A Sweet Thought
We all remember our grandparent’s house. When we were just a couple of kids our grandparents would make their signature dish upon our arrival and the fragrance of the food would wrap around the house.
It might be a cake or kachoris, or maybe just eating raw mangoes picked up from the backyard. Yet, the memory still unlocks in our minds, as good as new, whenever we eat something similar to those food items. The whole episode not only reminds us of the food we ate but also of different elements of that small yet cosy house like the small kitchen where your grandma used to bake the cake or the big doorway that you used to run past to eat the kachoris in a hurry because you didn’t want them to turn cold or maybe, the big lush garden at the back with mango trees where you would pick up the yellow ripe mangoes with your grandfather, who would be happily narrating stories of his childhood to you.
The dishes also tasted rich in flavour as the most special ingredient was used while making them and that was love and affection. The notion to not disappoint their grandchild and to let the kid have the best experience. That mere feeling was enough to elevate the flavours of the dish and to make it a memory worth cherishing.
It is rightly said, the way to someone’s heart is through their stomach.
The story of food is simple
Elevating the mood of the room
Adds personality to the empty plate
So, you can’t be ever late
